Cool Command Prompt Tricks and Hacks: Beginner | Part 1
When Windows 10 comes with such an attractive GUI interface, it’s very hard to remember that Windows 10 also has a command line interface. There exist tons of windows Command prompt tricks that you can learn, use in your daily life and show off with your friends.
To some of you, windows command prompt is just a black and white and dull interface to work with and also commands are a little bit complex when we can easily navigate to a location or access all different settings in our PC with GUI.
Well, it’s might not be as bad as you might think. Yes, it might be a bit complex, but it makes all the manual changes by just a single command’s work. Only experienced users know the power of it and use different tweaks and tricks.
So let’s start with some of these commands –
1. For beginner how to start command prompt
- Start menu > All Apps > Windows System > Command Prompt. (For Windows 10 Only)
- Ctrl+ R > Write CMD in the box > Press Enter
2. Customize the title bar
Want to customize the title of the command prompt. Oh, it's easy.
Command: title
Let's say my channel name is Ruban TheGeek, and I want my channel name to show on the title bar. By typing title Ruban TheGeek you can customize the command prompt title bar.
3. Change the command prompt color
Oh yes, you can change the color of the command prompt color. If you are a girl like pink, or you are a boy and like blue, you can change.
To do that right click on the top corner of title bar > select Properties > Chose Color tab > and change the color as per your choice.
4. Get Help on almost any command
Command: /?
This is very helpful for beginners, even there are few things for the advanced user too. You will get information about almost any command by suffixed with the /? option (Called help switch) to display details info about what a command does, what process is usually used, syntax and often time even some example.
5. To view drive/directory structure
Command: tree
With tree, a user can create/view a listing or a kind of a map of the entire directories including files and folders in an easy to read view.
